Cell Structure and Function – an international Open Access journal

The Japan Society for Cell Biology (JSCB) is pleased to report on important changes to Cell Structure and Function.

The JSCB’s overall aim for Cell Structure and Function is to provide a high-quality, international outlet for the publication of articles in molecular and cell biology. A good journal acts as a conduit between author and reader, no matter where in the world they are. To this end, and to be at the forefront of developments in journal publishing, Cell Structure and Function has moved to a fully gold Open Access model. Accepted manuscripts submitted after 1 October 2016 are published Open Access on payment of an article processing charge. In addition, the journal has introduced new or updated policies and information on author rights, ethics, referee guidelines and more.

Gold Open Access publication benefits authors and readers. Authors retain full copyright in their work, and pay an article processing charge (APC) of only ¥100,000 (commissioned Reviews and Mini-reviews are free to publish). Manuscripts are published under the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) 4.0 International license, which allows readers to use, distribute and reproduce them without restriction, provided the original source and authors are credited. The journal’s updated policies on author rights, ethics and other publishing aspects ensure that it is clearly and explicitly compliant with best publishing practices and globally accepted standards. While Cell Structure and Function has always ascribed to these principles, the new Instructions to Authors and other documentation – all of which are available online – clearly articulate these policies and processes.

The JSCB aims to build on the journal’s solid foundations and long history, and we are confident that these recent changes will provide a new platform for its future success. The editorial aim of Cell Structure and Function remains the same: to provide high-quality, interesting and informative articles on molecular and cell biology to our broad audience.
